Answer
If it's a cartridge filter first hose it off, then soak in a mild solution of automatic dishwasher detergent. (This removes oils you can't see.) Then rinse thoroughly.
If a DE filter hose off and give a mild acid wash. Rinse and reinstall, adding new DE.
If a sand filter just change the sand.

Pool Maintenance: Pump, Filter, and Skimmer Problems....Please Help ~~~>_<~~~?
Games for
I have a in-ground 20,000 gallon pool with a cartridge filter, and now the two skimmers are not sucking water. Along with the skimmer failure, the automatic vacuum is no longer working, and it seems like there is no water pumping through the water hose to make it work. Is this problem related to the pump or the filter? Please help. Really Really appreciate !!
Answer
Remove the cartridge from your filter, and replace the lid and see if everything runs like normal. If they do, then replace your old cartridges with new ones. If it does not start working correctly, then dismantle pump and clean impeller. One of those two things should correct your problem.
