Once Chlorine Has Been Put In A Pool, How Long Must You Wait?

automatic pool cleaning devices on Zodiac Ranger Automatic Pool Cleaner Maintenance Kit: 3-Piece Telepole ...
automatic pool cleaning devices image
Q. Please excuse me spelling with 'Chlorine.'. But how long do you have to wait after Chlorine has been put into a pool?
My* instead of Me*.

Answer
Yes, it really depends on how much chlorine you are adding. Automatic chlorinators add chlorine as needed 24/7, so there is almost always more chlorine going into a pool which has that sort of device.

As long as the pool's chlorine level is less than about 5ppm (parts-per-million) then it would be safe to enter immediately. If you've super-chlorinated (shocked) the pool and taken it up to 20ppm or more, you would need to wait until that came down. It can be done quickly by adding a de-chlorinizer. Otherwise, it takes a while, possibly a day or two. Longer in an indoor pool.

Chlorine is consumed (used up) in two ways: the one you want most is it's reaction with organic matter, which 'burns' (oxidizes) it and vaporizes off the pool surface.

Chlorine is photo-sensitive, meaning that sunlight will also activate the chlorine and deplete it from the pool.

Some chlorine products include cyanuric acid which acts as a 'buffer' against chlorine reaction. The good news is that it slows down the reaction with sunlight and keeps you from using up a lot of chlorine. That bad news is that it also slows down the reaction with organics, which means your pool does not stay as clean. Lots of cyanuric acid in your pool will keep the chlorine levels high for a longer period.

So there are a lot of variables. The only way to be sure is to use a professional type detection kit and measure the chlorine level yourself. People saying 'an hour' or 'two hours' are using a rule-of-thumb that may or may-not apply to your situation.

Can anyone tell me how Automatic Gold Dredgers work?

Man-eo

I have been trying to figure out how something that separates the gold from the mud/sand work??

and i am getting NO WERE, lol.

Can someone explain it to me?

Answer
No prob, I live in gold country. There are the floating self sustaining dredges. They are fairly small dredges on floats. They are usually anchored. There's a suction hose that acts similarly to an automatic pool cleaning device. It moves around the bottom and deposits the silt i.e. mud/sand into a shaker box where water is continually run through. Since gold is more dense/heavier than sand/mud it tends to not be washed away. It all has to do with the periodic table of elements and their mass. What it comes down to is a filtering action where the heaviest particles stay and the lighter slag is washed away. There's also a less autonomous system where a diver uses the suction hose and manually vacuums the bottom. Hope it helps.

Jamie L

just moved into a home with an in-ground concrete pool and i was wondering what it would cost me to drain it and get it cleaned, it hasnt been cleaned in over a year or so, i would like to keep it cleaned year round, i live in south louisiana. I also heard that if i drain it the heat might cause the concrete to bust in the heat or something after its drained.

Answer
No, you do not want to drain it. The water bill will be horrendous to re-fill it. A local pool company can come get it right for probably $250 or less, but if you run the filter 24/7, get an automatic cleaner (or vacuum daily) shock it every 3 days, backwash every day, it should be clean in a week. Ar you sure it is concrete and not fiberglass? A concrete pool is called gunite.

how do you install a pool skimmer?

Answer
Really depends on what type of pool it is-- above ground, inground vinly liner, fiberglass, concrete... Add some details and I'll help you. Perhaps you have gotten your terminology wrong. Are you talking about an automatic cleaner? (Some people refer to them as skimmers.) Fill me in.

how do above ground automatic pool cleaners work??

automatic pool cleaner hose on SWIMMING POOL CLEANER STINGRAY INCL ALL ATTACHMENTS AND HOSES
automatic pool cleaner hose image

Hugeez

Answer
the most common form of pool cleaners are suction cleaners which have a hose that simply attaches through the skimmer. (If the pool has a main drain, it would need to be closed using the valve). The cleaner automatically moves around the bottom of the pool, sucking debris off the bottom of the pool and trapping it in the pump basket and filter. The pump basket should be emptied before and after the cleaning cycle. And the filter should be cleaned after cleaning the pool. Any large debris (leaves, sticks, and such) should be removed from the pool with a leaf rake before hooking up cleaner to prevent clogging up plumbing and allowing for a more effecient cleaning cycle. If you are considering purchasing a cleaner, I highly recommend the Zodiac brand. ( By the way, incase you're wondering, I own a swimming pool company and would be more than happy to answer any other questions you may have)

How do you get rid of efflorescence on Pavers/Stones?

CuriousJor

My steps were built using Rinox pavers and I've got alot of efflorescence on them. The contractor told me that this was a normal process from the concrete curing process and that it goes away after a short while. It's almost 3 years later and It's still there. Does anyone know if this is going to go away or how to treat it. I find it so unattractive everytime I look at it.

Thanks

Answer
Cleaning and Sealing Paving Stones

STONESAVER® premium concrete surface cleaners, water repellent and sealers have been formulated to provide the best cleaning, preparation and sealing system on the market. Originally developed for the commercial paving surface industry, STONESAVER® products have been put to the test by many satisfied professionals for years before finally being offered to the retail public.

Rust Remover.

Removes stubborn rust stains from paving stones and concrete.

Citrus Oil Degreaser

Uses a unique blend of citrus extracts to removes oil and grease stains from paving stones and concrete.

Stripper

Removes paint, graffiti, rubber, tar and chewing gum from paving stones and concrete.

Cleaner and Surface Prep

Essential pre-sealing surface preparation ensures vibrant colour and proper sealer to surface bonding.
Removes efflorescence, dirt and tire marks from paving stones and concrete.
Complete with E-Z Spray auto mixing hose adaptor.

Paving Stone Sealer

Protects paving stones against salt, oil, rust, acid rain, UV colour fading and pool chemicals.
Premium formulation, high acrylic solids.
Colour enhancing wet look.
Will not peel, wears evenly.
Comes in 3.78L and 18L containersâ 1L covers 30 to 40 square feet.

How Long to Wait Until Sealing

Sealing should be done only after the natural efflorescence process has been given time to take place. Efflorescence, being a whitish powder, is the deposit of small quantities of cement from within the pavers on its top surface after a series of wetting (rainfall) and drying (warm weather) cycles. Because a series of wet/dry cycles are required, which are weather dependant, there is no exact time frame which applies to every situation. However, allowing 8 weeks, with a minimum of 4 precipitation events during that time, is a common rule of thumb.

Stain Removal

Between installation and sealing, some pavers may become stained due to foot and vehicle trafficâ this is common. However, it is important to remove these stains prior to sealing or else their appearance through sealing may become enhanced.

The first step is to inspect for any extremely stained, cracked or broken units which should be replaced. All items which cast shadows on the area (e.g. furniture) should be removed, if possible, to allow the area to dry evenly once stain removal and cleaning is completed. Similarly, automatic sprinkler systems should be turned off during cleaning and sealing operations.

Prior to using any of these products, refer to the respective productsâ

labels for personal protection, installation and first aid suggestions.

Start stain removal at the bottom of the pavement and work up the slope in manageable sections. This prevents untreated areas from becoming wet, which can hide some stains.

Rust Remover- Pre-wet the stained area with water. Apply a liberal amount of the stain remover to the stained area only and let stand for two minutes. Vigorously scrub the stain with a stiff bristle scrub brush and rinse immediately with generous amounts of water. Repeat if necessary.

Citrus Oil Degreaserâ Pre-wet the stained area with water. Apply a liberal amount of stain remover to the stained area and let stand for one minute. Vigorously scrub the stain with a stiff bristle scrub brush and rinse away cleaner and residue thoroughly with water (strong water pressure works best). Stains that have deeply penetrated into the pavers may resurface after initial cleaning and dryingâ repeat stain removal process if necessary.

Stripperâ Remove excess material with a scraper. Apply sufficient Stripper to cover the remaining stain. Allow product to stand for approximately 5 minutes. Do not let product dry on surface. Scrub stained area with a stiff bristle brush. Rinse thoroughly with water (strong water pressure works best). Repeat if necessary.

When all stains are removed, rinse the entire area down to ensure any residuals are washed away.

Cleaning Process

Once the stains are removed, the entire area should be thoroughly cleaned to remove any efflorescence and dirt. Note: Because of the effectiveness of the Surface Cleaner, spot cleaning will be noticeable in the final product; therefore, it is recommended that the entire area be cleaned.

Prior to starting each application, lightly pre-wet the area with water, as well as any vegetated areas that may be subject to overspray and/or runoff. As a precaution, delicate vegetation can be pulled back or covered to protect from overspray.

Concrete Cleaner- Simply attach your water hose to the inlet port of the E-Z sprayer and you are ready to start. Working quickly, start at the lowest point of your surface and work in 27 square metre (300 square feet) pre measured sections. Work side to side, making sure the entire surface is covered. If there is still cleaner remaining in the bottle after the section is done, apply the remaining cleaner as an additional spray over the same areaâ this will reinforce the cleaning application and prevent drying of the surface. Use a long handled stiff bristled broom to brush the treated area, loosening stubborn dirt and deposits. Rinse thoroughly (usually 5-6 rinses with a pressure sprayer until foaming is no longer visible. However, care should be taken to not blow or wash the sand from the jointsâ sand will remain in the joints if a wide spray nozzle is used and the angle of the spray is kept from directly penetrating the joints. Be sure to rinse all cleaner from the surface as you progress to additional sections until the entire surface is cleaned and thoroughly rinsed. Do not let the cleaner dry on surface or stand in low spots as this may stain the pavers; mist surface with water if it begins to dry.

When the entire surface is cleaned and well rinsed, allow to dry and inspect. Repeat application to the white (efflorescence) areas if necessary.

For vegetated areas that were subject to overspray or runoff, dilute the areas one last time with large quantities of clean water.

Sealing

Allow at least 24 hours without moisture or surface dampness before sealing. If the pavers and jointing sand are not totally dry (not just surface dry), moisture blushing may occur under the sealer after it is applied, or the sealer may become cloudy/white.

Never re-sand paving joints between cleaning and sealing applications as this will leave residue on the surface of the pavers.

Paving Stone Sealerâ For best results, use a lint free high pile roller and a metal paint tray, or airless sprayer, to apply the sealer. Apply at a temperature above 7 Degrees C (45 Degrees F). Apply sufficient sealer to fully saturate the surface and penetrate at least 15 mm (5/8â) into the jointing sand. Excess sealer on the surface should be pushed to an unsealed area with a rubber squeegee, which are effective in achieving good penetration but avoid bringing jointing sand to the surface of the pavers.

For surfaces being sealed for the first time, apply a second coat by rolling in a cross direction from the first coat. Allow one hour to dry between applications. Allow sealed surfaces to dry for 24 hours before using.

i have a 12'x30" pool it holds 1,718 gallons of water.the pump filters 530 gallons of water per hour. the pool by morning is green and slimmy. the bottom of the pool is covered in green and brown crud?

Answer
Cleaning your pool is a must to ensure bather comfort and protect your equipment. How to clean your pool is simple, and we've asked pool professional John Kistler to fill us in on the whys of pool cleaning.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Steps:

Step 1 Use a manual brush and pool vacuum on all areas of the walls and floor at least once a week, even if your pool is equipped with an automatic system, says John Kistler of Sunflower Pool & Spa in Salina, Kansas. There are some places in every pool that the automatic cleaning systems miss.

Step 2 Pay particular attention to corners, stairs and other hard-to-reach areas that get little circulation.

Step 3 Keep your pool maintained. A clean pool is also a function of a working filtration system and proper pH levels. Use a sanitizer to help fight bacteria, and shock the pool on a regular basis (see How to Shock a Pool) to help keep it clean and crystal-clear.

Urgent!!! we moved in a new house and it has above ground pool, actually ...?

lala

only a frame of the pool with a desk half way around it. the Inspector came inand told us eather to take it out or fill it with water. I need help desiding what would be easier and cheaper. to take the pool out and redo the deck or buy all the needed thing for runing a pool. Also I have no clue on taking care of the pool cleanig, the chemicals and all that.
sorry for my bad spelling,, I didn't reread what I wrote..:-/
also any of you know any stores in St.Louis MO area where I can go look at the prices and ask more questions?

Answer
i'm kinda lost bout your question but i do know how to clean a pool!
depending on it's size, when you first open it you wanta add a bit of chlorine...it's also good to get one of those little things that float around in the water, and that hold chlorine tablets.
after a little while your water may become foggy, so it would be good to add pool shock... uhmm... lets see what else...

a solar cover would a good investment too, it basically heats your water...
if it's kind of a big sized pool.. you might want a pool cleaner...

http://www.intheswim.com/Pool-Equipment/Automatic-Pool-Cleaners-for-Above-Ground-Pools/Polaris-65-Automatic-Pool-Cleaner/

that's the type of system i have.

another really good thing to have is a pool water testing kit
it will test the ph level and chlorine level, they'll run you about $10

i know this stuff seems kind of expensive, but the only stuff you'll ever have to buy repeditively are pool chemicals

Asking price for a 27 foot above ground swimming pool?

Dain K

I have a 27 foot above ground swimming pool (3 years old) that I am trying to sell. It is in very good condition with a pump/filter, solar and winter covers, and accessories such stairs and automatic cleaner. The liner is fine now, but it may need to be replaced when torn down, but no idea. Is $1500 too much to ask? $1000? $500? I'm clueless on this.

Answer
Dain, i already answered your question on this with your other question when you referred to your pool as a 24 foot Round pool.

I gave it a second thought after posting, and seeing this message, IF you want to sell your pool, or get rid of it, you might want to post an ad for used pool equipment. A Pump/motor usually goes for 3-400 bucks, and the filter could be a few hundred more, but the equipment is used, so if you get someone to buy it for 500 dollars you should consider yourself lucky. Place an add for the equipment, and as a bonus they can have the pool for free. you might get a taker, But refer to my other message where i talked about liability. You don't want to be held responsible when the pool leaves your yard, so should something happen in 2 weeks, whether it is faultyequipment or improper installation, just make sure you dont get caught up in it.

It makes no sense to try and make a few bucks back on your pool that is 3 years old, and then by some string of bad luck, have someone come knocking on your door looking for damages because the ladder or steps failed and someone got injured. Sure it could be from the new owner installing equipment improperly, and you have no control over it, But is it really worth the hassle? Sell your used equipment, people will buy it. Especially now where people are going to have equipment failures and problems from the past winter, and dismantle your pool and put it on the side of the road, i guarantee someone will load it and take it away, even if there is no equipment.

How do I lower the alkalinity in my pool?

automatic pool cleaning equipment on Ultra Pool Equipment Package 15ft Round | NB966 | Cheap Pool Products
automatic pool cleaning equipment image

Tony

The alkalinity in my in ground pool (25K gallons) is very high. It takes 20 drops in the tester to produce clear test. I've already bought a new tester. My ph is normal. How do I lower the alkalinity without also lowering the PH too much? I have to add acid but won't that also lower th PH too much?

Answer
You can lower the alkalinity with muriatic acid. 1.3 pints per 10,000 gallons will lower it by 10ppm. 3.25 pints in your pool will lower it by 10ppm. To get to the level you need of approximately 100-120 you will need to use 26 pints of muriatic acid to reduce it by 80ppm or 3.25 gallons of liquid muriatic acid.

You are testing the TA and getting 200ppm for your inground pool right? Make sure you walk a perimeter around the pool while pouring this in and wear proper safety equipment (eye protection and gloves) as muriatic acid is a diluted form of hydrochloric acid. Make sure you turn off any automatic chlorinators or remove chlorine pucks/sticks from the pool and NEVER let muriatic acid come into direct contact with chlorine products. Once in the water it will play safe but outside of water it will create chlorine gas which will kill a human in a matter of minutes.

You can get muriatic acid from the pool store or a local hardware store (sold as a cleaning agent).

Anyone here know why water makes a stain in the bathtub?

B

My water makes a pink slimy stain when it pools up somewhere for a day or two. It stains the drain and the toilet. Also, when you leave a few drops of water in the bathtub, a pink stain appears. Its gross, it comes off with soap. But I wonder why it does that?

Answer
Check this out....it is off the internet:

What White Water Mold is & what it looks like:

a naturally occurring bacterium (of the newly formed genus Methylobacterium) (this is NOT a form of Algae, it is animal not vegetable)
Pink-pigmented, forms a heavy, protective slime coating providing the organism with an unusually high level of protection, methanol consuming, oftentimes found WITH White Water Mold
that is very resilient against halogen-based (chlorine, bromine) as well as non-halogen sanitizers or germicides can remain a contaminant even after treatment
this is NOT a biguanide problem ONLY
bacterium has an affinity for the matrix that exists on the surface of PVC plastics; it will attach itself to & inside of the matrix, allowing it to re-contaminate long after it appears that it has been destroyed (includes pool toys, floats, ladders, steps, fountains, automatic pool cleaner parts, skimmer baskets, weirs, directional fittings, garden hoses, etc.)
small quantities can lead to a re-establishment of the problem
caused by improper water & pool maintenance, environment, poor circulation
prefers areas that are "dark" (not exposed to direct sunlight) & with "slow moving" water
** in another industry, medical technology, this bacterium occurs regularly in laboratory tubing

White Water Mold & Pink Slime are NOT CAUSED BY USING BIGUANIDES (Soft Swim, Baquacil, Polyclear, etc.)!
It is an environmental issue.

Prevention:
Prevention of "white water mold" & "pink slime" is preferred over treatment. Follow these steps to help prevent white water mold:
1. Physically brush & clean ALL Spa surfaces weekly, including steps, jet recesses, & behind pillows
2. Expose ALL pool surfaces to as much sunlight as possible (sunlight & UV are natural
oxidizers)
3. Remove the lid from the skimmer to allow sunlight into the basket for several hours each
day ** INGROUND POOLS MUST USE EXTREME CAUTION in doing this in order to avoid
a person falling into or otherwise injuring themselves due to an open skimmer.
4. Regularly add oxidizing chemicals into the skimmer to purge & clean the filtration lines of
any bio-film*
5. When adding make-up water from the garden hose, allow the water to run for 2 to 3
minutes before putting the hose into the pool.
6. Regularly clean spa & hot tub toys & floats (use BioGuard® Stow Away)
7. Regularly clean pool solar blanket (use BioGuard® Stow Away)
8. Chemically clean pool filter every 4 to 6 weeks (use SpaGuard® Filter Cleaner or SoftSoak® Filter Cleaner)
9. Add regular Maintenance dosages of "Shock" (SpaGuard® Spa Shock, SpaGuard® Enhanced Shock, SpaGuard® Chlorinating Concentrate, SpaGuard® Brominating Concentrate or SoftSoak® Shock) every week as prescribed
10. Run the filter a minimum of 6 hours daily to prevent "dead spots" in the pool
11. Remember to clean & rinse the brushes, hoses & vacuums that you use to clean the spa
12. Leave as much of your spa equipment exposed to the sun
13. Keep the water balanced at all times. Recheck after heavy usage or rain or large "top-offs" of new water. Water balance refers to Free Available Sanitizer level, pH, Total Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness.

best automatic pool cleaner reviews image

N.

I have a below ground pool and am trying to find reviews on automatic pool cleaners. Consumer Reports doesn't seem to have anything on the subject :( Can anyone lend some insight and perspective on automatic pool cleaners and make a recommendation? Much thanks in advance.

Answer
Suction-Side Automatic Pool Cleaners

In researching suction-side cleaners, weâve found that the Stanley PoolTec DLX In-Ground Automatic Pool Vacuum Cleaner is the newest and most innovative way to keep your pool clean. The trusted brand of Stanley, with its master craftsmanship and innovative design provides a cleaner that is easy to install and operate and provides continuous cleaning of most in-ground pools. Operating with your poolâs filter, this suction cleaning mechanism maintains a proper angle for optimal performance while cleaning pools with depths of 9 ft.

Pressure-Side Automatic Pool Cleaners

If you are looking for a pressure-side cleaner and you want your pool cleaned quickly and completely, we recommend the Kreepy Krauly Legend cleaner from Pentair. A host of design features combine to keep the Legend cleaner on the move, thoroughly cleaning most pools in just 1 to 3 hours. The debris channel and large intake throat handles leaves, twigs and other large debris with ease. The Front-wheel drive generates maximum traction on inclined surfaces for total coverage of pool bottom and walls. The independent booster pump helps provide optimum cleaning power and unimpeded surface skimming. Another great feature is that disposable cleaner bags are also availableâno need to empty or touch debris again.

Robotic / Electronic Automatic Pool Cleaners

Many consumers are now selecting incredibly efficient robotic units as their cleaners of choice. These are great at cleaning small debris and sand as well as one of the only types that clean and scrub the walls and tile line. The Dolphin Supreme M3 and M4 from Maytronics are great options for robotic cleaners. These award-winning models have features that are designed for customers and are backed by the Maytronics name which has provided 25 years of technological leadership. Not only are Dolphin M3 and M4 energy efficient (average cost of less than $0.15 to clean the pool), but they have weekly timers where a user can preset cleanings throughout the week.

Here are some more links to more information. I hope this helps.

Does the baracuda g3 inground pool cleaner work?

DisneyFrea

I'm looking for an automatic pool cleaner to save time, does this cleaner work? It normally retails for around $400 and it is on sale for $200. Is it worth the money?

Answer
They work. The only thing I'm not fond of on any of the Barracuda's is the diaphragm that is part of it's propulsion system. They tend to wear out and require replacement on a yearly basis. Barracuda used to offer that part as a free warranty one, dunno if they still do.
I'm more of a Kreepy Krauly fan myself, they're a bit more robust and do the same job but if you're getting a G3 for 200 bucks, that's a steal.

Orb pool chemical system - how does it work?

Profran

The sales person was telling me that it releases copper into the water & keeps the pool cleaner than just adding regular chlorine. We already have metals in our water (city water) & I am concerned about the liner turning orange. The guy said if you have a gunite pool it will turn it blue. What are ingredients of the chemical used in the orb. Does the Orb release copper or does it just hold the chemical &the chemical releases copper? Is the Orb system on cleaning your pool, better than just adding regular chlorine to a floaty thing? Are there any complaints about the Orb system?
What product do you suggest to use, so as not to fade or color the liner?
Thank you so much in advance for taking the time out to read & answer my questions.

Answer
I am not familiar with the Orb pool chemical system in particular but, If you know your source water has metals in it stay away form any chemicals that contain copper. You will eventually have staining of the pool liner and discolored water. Copper usually shows up as a blue/green stain. It is recommended not to use a floater in a vinyl liner pool. There is a chance that it could sink and bleach the liner. It is a small chance admittedly, but a chance not worth taking and needing to replace your liner. I highly suggest installing an automatic chlorinator like one of these http://www.everything4pools.com/products/42/default.html .
and use regular chlorine tablets in the chlorinator. This is safe for your liner, will reduce the frequency to refill the chlorinator and can be adjusted to maintain a steady level of chlorine by turning a control knob on the chlorinator. Have your pool water tested for metals, you may need to add a stain preventative to help remove the copper already in the fill water. Be diligent in keeping you water chemistry in the proper ranges and you will have no adverse effects from the copper in your fill water.

What is the difference between in ground and above ground cleaner?

best in ground automatic pool cleaner image

I am looking for an automatic pool cleaner, but i found out that there are two type. one is in ground and one is abover ground. I dont know what's the different between the two.

Answer
It's referring to the type of pool you have. Above-ground cleaners mainly cover the bottom of the pool. Since the sides in most inground pools have either curves or slopes between the floor and the walls, (above-ground pools usually have right angles) the cleaners are generally able to climb the walls and clean them as well. (And, generally there will be a big price difference between the two types; in-ground cleaners generally cost a lot more.

What is the best automatic pool cleaner?

Regression Problem- Confim my Anwers Please?

Please see the below and my answers-- please let me know if you disagree and also if you know the answers to the 2 questions I don't. Any help is greatly appreciated.

PoolVac, Inc. manufactures and sells a single product called the âSting Ray,â which is a patent-protected automatic cleaning device for swimming pools. PoolVacâs Sting Ray accounts for 65 percent of total industry sales of automatic pool cleaners. Its closest competitor, Howard Industries, has captured 18 percent of the market.

Using the last 26 months of its sales data, PoolVac wishes to estimate demand for its Sting Ray. Demand for Sting Rays is specified to be a linear function of its price (P), average income for households that have swimming pools in the U.S (MAVG) and the price of the competing pool cleaner sold by Howard Industries (PH). The general linear form of the demand function

Qd = a + b P + c MAVG + d PH.

The attached computer printout presents the regression output from 26 observations (monthly data) on the price charged for a Sting Ray (P), average income of households with pools (MAVG), and the price Howard industries charged for its pool cleaner (PH).
âââââ ââââââââââââââââââââ
The printout of part of regression output from Minitab for the empirical demand is below:

Regression Analysis: Q versus P, MAVG, PH

Predictor Coef SE Coef T P
Constant 2728.8 531.7 5.13 0.000
P -10.758 1.330 -8.09 0.000
MAVG 0.021420 0.009452 2.27 0.034
PH 3.166 1.344 2.36 0.028

S = 73.0546 R-Sq = 96.6% R-Sq(adj) = 96.2%

Total 25 3497260

Source DF Seq SS
P 1 3327368
MAVG 1 22878
PH 1 29600

ââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
1. An estimated demand equation for PoolVac is:
Qd = 2728.8-10.758P+0.021420M+3.166Ph

2. Evaluate the statistical significance of the three estimated slope parameters using a significance level of .05 or 5 percent (you can either use p-values or do a t-test).Please, explain how you decided each parameter was statistically significant or not.

Since the P values of all 3 variables are within the 5% confidence interval, each variable should be considered as staristically significant in determining the demand of the pool vacuums.

3. What is the exact level of statistical significance for estimated slope parameters on price, average income of household and price of related good? Please, explain how you know.

We should look at the P value for each of the slope parameters and in doing so, we find that price is 100% significant, average income (Mavg) is 96.6% (100-.034) and price of competition (Ph) is 97.2% significant (100-.028).

4. Discuss the appropriateness and/or interpretations of the algebraic signs of the three slope parameters, based on your theoretical expectations. Interpret the numerical values of the three slope parameters in the context of this regression.

5. Now evaluate the overall fit of the estimated (sample) regression equation to the data.

a. What percentage of variability in Qd (linear) is explained by a model? Does it indicate a good overall fit? Please, explain.

b. Verify whether the overall regression equation is statistically significant, another words, verify the goodness of overall fit .What is the exact level of significance for the entire regression equation?

Looking at the F stat which is 211.1, we can say the overall regression equation is significant since the absolute value is large. Also, the P value is 0 so there is no chance that this regression equation doesnât explain the relationship between the given variables and quantity demanded.

Answer
All of your answers are good. To say that the F statistic has a large absolute value is a little vague; one would generally either consult an F table to the appropriate threshold value or just look at the P value in the computer output. On the other hand, it isn't wrong, and if your instructor taught it that way you should leave it in.

Regarding the questions you haven't answered, number 4 refers to the direction of the effects on your dependent variable that come with changes in the independent variables. You should look at your coefficients and consider what would happen if you changed the values in your variables. For example, if the price of the product goes up, demand for the product goes down because of the negative coefficient associated with the price variable. If this seems confusing, try plugging in some different values into the equation and calculating the result. The negative coefficient makes sense, because people are going to be less interested in buying something if its more expensive. The question is asking you to evaluate both the actual effects on demand and the expected effects for each of the variables.

Question 5a refers to the R-squared statistic (R-Sq), which is the percent of explained variability as mentioned in the question. Yours is quite high.

During this recession, what do you think of these ideas for saving and making money?

You can never have more than 1 atm in a vacuum system. Obviously the more vacuum you generate, the better it will clean. Most vacuum cleaners probably produce between 50-80 inches of water vacuum.

I recently got a new automatic pool cleaner for my pool and it came with a few extras like a bunch of new hoses and a regulator valve that you connect to the the weir. What I'd like to know is whether these regulator valves actually do anything besides tell you how strong the suction is from your pool pump, and if so, what else do they do?

Answer
Depending on the model you purchased, the extra equipment will have a different function. You should include all the relative information like make and model and double-check the instruct manuals.

my automatic pool cleaner is not working?

Justice

what should i do ro check out to see wny my automatic pool cleaner(polaris turtle) is not working?

Answer
I cannot find the website for polaris, seems they were sold not too long ago. I could be wrong on that.

If your turtle plugs into the skimmer or fitting in the water and there is not a separate pump to operate it, likely the turtle is a suction side automatic cleaner.

Suction side automatic cleaners all have something in common and that is when your filter is getting dirty the amount of water going through your cleaner and filter is way down. Inside your cleaner is a water paddle wheel that makes the turtle go.

Check your turtle to see if the passage ways are clean and clear and the hose is also, then clean out your filter. A clean filter should develop about 16-20psi when clean. When dirty and needing cleaning the pressure is about 26-30 or a 10 psi gain. Best to clean before 10 psi but surely by 10 psi.

You're welcome!!

Does anyone know how to best remove ash from the bottom of a spa?

socalgal

My pool has ash all over the bottom after all the fires in So.Cal. The automatic pool cleaner is picking most of it up in the pool, but it doesn't clean the spa. Should I drain the spa, or is there some way to clean the water?

Answer
We are in the same boat. We have a spa vacuum but it isn't doing such a great job because the ash gets stirred up and starts floating. We plan to drain the spa this weekend and then use the wet/dry vac once the ash settles into the bottom of the spa once it is drained.
