I have an in-ground vinyl liner pool that is 17x36. At its deepest point, it is 8.5 feet deep with sloped walls and tight corners going down. (Someone called it a diving pool?) I want one that is self contained and doesn't hook up to my filter. I was originally looking at the Dolphin Diagnostic Advantage (DL2019) In-Ground Robotic Pool Cleaner but am open for suggestions. Anyone have any experience with these or can throw me some pros or cons of a different type? I am not willing to spend more than a $1,000.00.

Which pool vacuum should I get?

We have a basic family pool, about 30ft long and around 8-10ft wide in your basic kidney bean shape. No deep end, just 3-5-3ft depth. It's a DE filter with skimmer and suction vacuum (Navigator). I hate the navigator and it gets stuck on the center drain, the steps, and about 5 other spots, plus it's old.
We would like to upgrade and I'm not sure if a robotic cleaner is 'over-kill' for this type of pool, or if you think it would work great. The other option is the 2 or 4 wheel suction vac (The Pool Cleaner), or maybe a Kreepy Krauly. I've had a Navigator many years at our old house and I just didn't love them. We have 2 large pine trees next to it (not planted by us), that constantly feed the pool with pine needles. Other than that, not really anything else, no leaves, and average amount of dust and debris.
I really want to consider a robotic pool cleaner, but I think it might be overkill. What would you do if this was your pool?
